Welcome to the online home of DJSmitty.com.

I spent about 4 years as a Country radio DJ in Chico, CA and even though I love Country music, one of my teenage pasttimes was and still is mixing beats.

I've aged since my early youth and WOW has technology changed! Regardless, I STILL love spinning old school and for that djsmitty.com was born.

WHAT IS A "DJ MIX"?

A DJ mix or DJ mixset is a sequence of musical tracks typically mixed together to appear as one continuous track.

DJ mixes are usually performed using a DJ mixer and multiple sounds sources, such as turntables, CD players, digital audio players or computer sound cards, sometimes with the addition of samplers and effects units, although it's possible to create one using sound editing software.

A DJ set is usually performed live in front of an audience or recorded in a studio and may also be referred to as a liveset (with "DJ mix" referring more to a studio mix not performed live). In live situations the progression of the DJ set is a reactionary process. The DJ chooses tracks partly in response to the activity on the dance floor. If the dance floor becomes less active, the DJ will make a judgement as to what track will increase dance floor activity. This may involve shifting the tempo or changing the general mood of the set. Track choices are also due, in part, to where the DJ wishes to take his audience. In this way the resulting mixset is brought about through a symbiotic relationship between audience and DJ.

HOW DID YOU MAKE THESE MIXES?

Although I've mixed with Technices 1200's with a Gemini mixer, now I mainly use my trusty Windows PC and a program called ACID. A lot of people think the program does all the work but you'd be suprised how my work "the DJ" has to do. :)
